Maranatha Children Homes
Raising poor and
needy children for God and Country.
James 1:27 NIV -- Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look
after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from
being polluted by the world.
Maranatha
Children Homes is a ministry of Maranatha Visvasa Samajam (Maranatha
Faith Community), a full gospel and charismatic faith community
started by Rev. G. Moses Choudary. The Children Home was started in
the native village of pastor Moses Choudary, Kurumaddali, with a
strength of 22 children in the year 1982, with the aim of raising poor
and needy children for God and country.

Boys and girls at Maranatha Children Home, Vijayawada.
|
The Children Home
kids at Vijayawada have recently gone on picnic to a beach and
they had a great time. The 270 boys and girls are very happy in
Children Homes where housing, food, clothing, medical, and
educational expenses are provided free. Some of them are in
colleges and universities. Several of them have accepted Jesus as
their savior. The kids in Hyderabad - What a day for them when
they saw an airplane for the first time and ran with it as far as
they could screaming airplane…airplane!!! |
Heart moving stories!
A woman from Priestly Caste was
deserted by her family due to her marriage with a young man from
another caste as the inter-caste marriages are not acceptable to
most people. After a boy was born to the couple the young
man had left leaving his wife and son as orphans. It is rare that
kids from priestly caste are into the orphanages. Who will care
for him ? The father of a five-year old girl from
Lambadi tribe died of neurological decease and his mother has
mental problem. What will happen to Bhargavi ?? A woman
from Fisherman Caste lost her husband and two children. The
seasonal work she did brought around 60-75 Cents a day and could
not feed herself, her mother-in-law, and her four-year old
daughter. Who will feed the girl, Karuna ??? Saumya, a
four-year old girl, lost both her parents. Where will she go
???? Somebody brought her to one of our pastors. What will he
do with her but find a shelter where Saumya will be safe and
experience genuine love? God’s kids like you have partnered
with us to operate Maranatha Children Homes where kids like these
are very happy. Your gift, Dollar A Day, helps a kid. That’s all
!
The stories behind the kids are
heart-moving. Oh, this sin-sick world has caused so much damage to
even the innocent children. But Thank The Lord for giving us HIS
burden to care for them and share HIS LOVE with them. Glory to God

Four Children Homes
1) Children Home at
Vijayawada At present there are
about 270 kids in four Children Homes. One of the oldest boys has
become a doctor, another two engineers, one has become computor
engineer, one is pursuing his computer studies, one is a Management
graduate, One is going to become a Physical-therapist, three of them
are in polytechnic college and three others are presently going to
Engineering college and another one to medical college. The Children
Home was started in the native village of, of Pastor Moses Choudary,
Kurumaddali, with a strength of 20 children. It was later shifted to
the city of Vijayawada after getting a permanent facility.
|
This building has a prayer and Meditation hall in
the ground floor, class rooms in the first floor and Children Home
in the second floor. There are separate dormitories for boys and
girls, dining hall, study room, kitchen and caretakers room. The
children are provided residence, food, education and medical
facilities. Above all this, their exposure to the teachings of
godly people like Pastor Moses Choudary gives them a great
opportunity to build themselves on moral and social values apart
from spiritual values in the Holy Bible. Most of the children come
from secular Hindu background.

Every summer, they get
six weeks off when we send them home to be with either their mother,
father, grand parents, uncle or aunt etc. to keep in touch with the
surviving family. We keep the kids who have nobody to go with us in
Vijayawada. We keep them in our homes or with some believers to give a
family touch.
The 10th graders in Vijayawada Children Home have done exceptionally
well in their final exams conducted in April. Two of them got admitted
into Polytechnic Colleges and others into Junior Arts & Science
colleges. Another boy got admitted into an Engineering College and
another just got a job in Hyderabad after graduating from a
Polytechnic College. Thank the Lord for blessing them. Several of them
have been saved and love Jesus.

 |
Most of the
children do not have either mother, father or neither of them.
They are taken into the Children Home irrespective of their caste,
creed or religion. They seem to be lonely upon their arrival to
the home, but they feel homely and loved once they are among the
children in the home. I do appreciate your consistent partnership
to raise them for God & Country. I'd like to see them come up in
life with Bible-based values as well as academics. I would be
delighted for you to visit us in India to see the ministries
you’ve been a part of. |
Glimpses of daily Activities
of the children
The children wake up at five o'
clock in the morning and go for devotion which lasts for half an hour.
They have a study hour from six to eight o'clock and they have their
breakfast after finishing their bath. The school starts at 9.30 AM for
the morning session and ends at 12.30PM for lunch. They have break for
one hour and again the afternoon session starts at 1.30 PM and ends at
4PM. From 4PM to 6PM they play games and sports. They have study hour
from 6PM to 8PM. From 8 to 8.30 they have devotion. 8.30 to 9 they
have night dinner. This is the usual schedule on week days. On Sundays
they attend Sunday school classes at the church.
|
It takes about 20
years to see some kids grow up and get settled in life with career
and family. I may or may not be able to see that day, as I'll be
76 years if alive. I am pleased that I could lay the foundation
for this ministry so that my young lieutenants could carry on this
ministry. It takes more than money to do this ministry – A vision
from God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I am relying on the
Holy Spirit to help me. |

The School
We used to hire teachers and
have class rooms in the Children Home premises. However, we have
learned with experience, that the children are not getting exposed to
the outside atmosphere as they live and go to classes in the same
premises. So, we are sending the children to a good privately run
school in the city of Vijayawada.
Staff
The home is assisted by cooking
staff (4 members), a washer-man and a scavenger. It has a permanent
barber who visits the home twice a month. The children wear uniform
for the school, usually with a different color each year. They wear
color dress for special occasions like Christmas, New year etc. They
feel elated after wearing a new dress and will be in joyous mood the
whole day. They have double-decker cots to sleep. Their academic
curriculum includes Moral Science, General Knowledge, Drawing,
English, Telugu, Hindi, Maths, Science and Social Studies. They have
fine arts and literary activities like debate, elocution, essay
writing, singing, dancing and different activities as such for
occasions.
Picnic times - Times of fun.
|
 |
They usually go for
a picnic every year. It would be a good opportunity to have a lot
of fun, to play and to have recreation. They enjoy the whole day
playing different games, eating good lunch and having snacks and
ice creams. This helps them to refresh their minds by coming out
of a busy schedule of schooling and help them to get strengthened
physically and mentally. Devotion is also a part of their daily
curriculum even on their picnic days. |
2) Children Home at Kannapuram
Kannapuram is a small
village in an interior part of West Godavary district in the state of
Andhra Pradesh, India. The majority of people living in that area are
a backward tribe called Koyas who are a nomadic people group with
primitive culture.
Four of the kids have
passed the 7th grade with high scores. They have taken an annual
comprehensive exam and one of our boys stood in the first place in the
whole school. Since they did so well I wanted to move them to
Vijayawada city where I could send them to even a better school until
the 10th grade. But the Headmaster of the school has refused to
transfer them saying that they were too good students to move and that
he'd not want his school miss the reputation these kids would bring in
future. So, I had to leave the kids in Kannapuram.
|
We started a
Children Home in that area to educate and empower the children of
those communities. At present we have 31 boys and girls. Some are
from Koya Tribe who do not have alphabet for their language and
the others from non-tribal families. Some do not have moms, some
do not have dads, some have no parents, while others have parents.
In any case, the kids don't have no care, much less anything to
live by. Diseases like Tuberculosis and Leprosy are very
prevalent among the Koya Tribal people. |
 |
The Children Home
ministry has had an influence upon the people of Kannapuram that they
have come to know that we share the love of God with the poor and
needy kids. It has helped Pastor. Samuel John reach some souls. Thank
God for the open doors to preach the gospel to the people of this
area.
We wanted to send the
children to an English medium school where all the subjects are taught
in English but found out that it'd cost us much more. So, we've
dropped that idea for now. If we can get an average of $ 30 a month on
each child, we can put them in English medium school next year, ie. in
June 2001.
3) Children Home at
Zaheerabad
|
 |
This Children Home
was started in the regional province of Telangana, which is
relatively poor and arid in climate. It is also one of the least
evangelized part of the state. The church in Zaheerabad, started
by pastor Vanamayya, has been one of the fastest growing churches
with about a 1000 people. We take poor and needy children
primarily from this backward province of Telangana. |
It only costs about $ 30 (US
dollars 30) per month to sponsor a boy or a girl which covers their
food, shelter, clothing, education etc. So just contact us for more
info.
4) New
Children Home at Hyderabad
I have started a new Children
Home in June at Hyderabad with 35 boys and girls from 4 to 12 years of
age. Ammaji, my wife, did the cooking for a week until the cooks came
in. It is exciting to see all these kids playing and running all over
the ground. It is a beautiful sight to see. I see a lot of life on the
land now. I am humbled to be a little part of sharing God’s love to
the unfortunate, poor, needy, and orphan kids with your partnership.
the stories behind the kids
are heart-moving. Oh, this sin-sick world has caused so much damage to
even the innocent children. But Thank The Lord for giving us HIS
burden to care for them and share HIS LOVE with them. Glory to God !!
We've admitted
them into a nearby school. We had an official opening on July the
10th. It was a glorious time when the prominent community people were
surprised with joy that an orphanage has begun in their community. One
of them said that he’d supply rice for the kids for one year. The city
officials were there too.
|
Thank God for three gas-connections granted by the Government
without any deposit. Cooking gas is rationed in India and
controlled by the Central Government. We got clothes made for the
kids by the tailor. Each kid has three school uniforms and three
regular dresses. We've purchased the shoes, socks, and ties for
their school. They look absolutely beautiful. They don't look poor
anymore. They have new strength and will be a blessing to the
ministry in Hyderabad. They are excited and very happy. And we are
very happy for them. |
 |
Happy Children
The 270 boys and girls in
four children homes are happy as they have a shelter, three meals a
day, clothing, medical help, and schooling provided. We share the love
of God and teach discipline and the Bible-based values of life. The
children are exposed to the Word in their daily devotions, Sunday
School in the local services, and Kids' Revivals, and special fasting
and prayer meetings. Raising them in the admonition of The Lord is the
priority in our Homes.
Some stories behind the kids
We
take new kids in the beginning of every school year in June as the
10th graders leave. We have taken a girl, Raji, of three years whose
mother died three days after birthing her. Her dad has deserted her
since she was a girl while taking his son with him. Now she didn't
have any parent. Her grand parents couldn't take care of her after
three years due to their old age and meager income. Her dad never came
to see her. When they brought her we took her into our Home.
Prem Kumar's dad beat his mother and tried to throw her in a well. His
mother didn't have any choice but to go back to her parents with two
kids. Her problem was not settled as their finances didn't permit to
feed them. She thought of killing her and kids so that there will be
no problem. However, she found out that she could sell her kidneys for
20,000 Rupees ( $450). But the doctors found out that the other kidney
was week. Even though her life was endangered she took money in
advance and sold it. As a pastor brought her son, Prem, we took him
into our Home. We put him into Kindergarten even though his birthday
is not known.
I took Nalla sisters, Sunitha (nine) and Mounica (four), as their
mother died with anemia and nervous problem. Their dad couldn't
provide good medical aid due to his meager income. The couple had
accepted Jesus and became Christians from a so-called high caste Hindu
family. Their conversion brought spiritual blessings but persecution
from their caste people and relatives. The girls' dad could not look
after them as the relatives had deserted the family and asked us to
help them. I took them into our Home.
